How Do I Find My SSH Key in WordPress?
So, you’ve finally switched over to using SSH instead of FTP to manage your WordPress sites. But now you’re stuck: you can’t find your SSH key! Fear not, though! This article will help you locate your SSH key in WordPress, and give you some tips on how to use it securely.
First, make sure you have the SSH key installed. If you’re using a managed hosting service, they should have already installed it for you.
If you’re using self-hosted WordPress, you’ll need to install the SSH key yourself.
Once you have the key installed, you’ll need to find it in WordPress. The easiest way to do this is to go to the “Settings” screen in your WordPress admin area, and look for the “Security” section.
There, you’ll find the “SSH” tab, and under that, the “Keys” section.
In that section, you’ll see a list of all the SSH keys installed on your WordPress site. Find your key, and click on it to open the key’s settings page.
In that page, you’ll see a list of all the sites on your WordPress site that are configured to use that key. Click on the “Add Site” button next to the site you want to use the key on, and then enter the username and password for that site.
Once you’ve added the site, you’ll be able to login to that site using the same credentials you use to log in to your WordPress site. Under “SSH keys” in the “Settings” screen, you’ll see a new entry for that site: a “Key Pair” button.
Click on that button to open the “Key Pair” settings page for that site.
There, you’ll see a list of all the files and folders on that site that are configured to use the key. Click on the “Add” button next to the file or folder you want to use the key on, and then enter the path to the file or folder.
WordPress will copy the file or folder’s contents to the server, and then use the key to encrypt them.
When you’re finished using the key, you can remove it from the “Keys” section of the “Settings” screen, and delete the file or folder it was used on. If you want to keep the key around for future use, you can store it in a secure location on your WordPress site, or store it in a secure location on your computer.
Finally, if you ever need to disable the use of the key on a site, you can do so by entering the site’s username and password into the “SSH keys” section of the “Settings” screen, and then clicking on the “Disable” button next to the key.
