Is My WordPress Site Using Cookies?
If you’re using a WordPress site, you’re probably using cookies. Cookies are small files that are sent by your web browser to a web server, and they’re usually used to remember the settings you make on a website (like your login information) or to track the behavior of visitors to the site.
Cookies don’t contain any personal information, and they’re not associated with your WordPress site.
WordPress cookies are used to track the following:
Your WordPress site’s configuration.
The pages you’ve visited on the site.
The posts and pages you’ve edited on the site.
The comments you’ve made on posts and pages.
The categories you’ve selected for posts and pages.
The plugins you’ve installed on the site.
The time of day.
The geographical location of your computer.
WordPress cookies aren’t used to track your user name, password, or other personal information.
WordPress cookies are stored on your computer in a folder named wp-cookies . The cookies are divided into two types: session cookies and persistent cookies.
Session cookies expire after the browser is closed, while persistent cookies stay on your computer until you delete them.
If you want to disable WordPress cookies, you can do one of the following:
Open your WordPress site in your web browser. Click the admin links on the top of the WordPress screen. Click the Settings link in the left-hand column of the admin screen. In the Settings page, under the General heading, click the Cookies tab.
Click the Enable cookies and check the box next to the Cookies you want to enable button. Click the Save changes button.
If you want to see the cookies that WordPress is currently using, click the Show Cookies button in the Cookies tab of the WordPress Settings page.
You can also delete all the cookies on your computer by clicking the Delete Cookies button in the Cookies tab of the WordPress Settings page.
If you’re using a shared web hosting account, you may not be able to delete the cookies that WordPress is using. You may have to contact your web hosting provider to ask them to delete the cookies.
WordPress cookies are a helpful way for your website to remember your preferences. If you don’t want WordPress to use cookies, you can disable them in your WordPress site’s Settings page.
